Oh. My. Gods. by Tera Lynn Childs , a YA, was a fun look at what happens when the orderly and planned out life of a teenager is turned up-side down and how decisions change, no matter how much you think they won’t. Add a twist on mythology and you have an engaging and entertaining story.
Phoebe Castro has her future all planned out. She will win the scholorship to USC nest year, attend with her friends and go on to work in sports medicine. However, things are suddenly changed when her mother announces she’s getting married and she and Phoebe are moving to Greece to live…..IN LESS THAN A MONTH! If that weren’t enough to wrap her mind around, Phoebe has to attend an exclusive Greek Island school where her soon-to-be Stepfather is the Headmaster. Only these aren’t normal, spoiled, elitist teens she’ll be attending school with, they’re the decendants of Greek Gods! Talk about having a hard time fitting in. Add in the addition of a scheming, semi-evil stepsister and Phoebe is counting the days until she can leave. Only nine more months to go! However, there are a few distraction and discoveries for Phoebe to help pass the time. She’s made two great new friends and Griffin Blake isn’t so hard to fall for. Will Phoebe make the right discoveries to lead her to an exciting future, or will her plans keep her from enjoying her hard won place on the track team, the hottie with the heroic smile and even her new family?
Phoebe starts as a hard driven, resolute young woman who has her life planned out. When her plans are challenged she is flumoxed, but decides to count down the months until she can follow those plans. Introduce a bit of mythology and you have the makings of a magical (sue me, I like puns) romance with the charming and at times oddly withdrawn Griffin Blake. The character are well written, with emotional backstories and actions that ring true. I can’t wait to read more about Phoebe and her journey to discover herself, her romance with Griffin, her friendships and even how she get’s along with her Stepsister, Stella.
