La Vida Vampire by Nancy Haddock is a fun, quirky and refreshing book featuring a Vampire Heroine. Francesca Marinelli is not your average vampire. For one, she can be out in daylight for periods of time and another, who’s ever heard of a vampire that surfs? And when called one of the undead, she instead refers to herslelf as un-alive.
200 Years ago Francesca, Cesca, was made a vampire and then when she disobeyed her “King”  was placed in a coffin and wrapped in silver chains. 8 months ago she was released from her imprisonment when the house she was entombed in started renovation. Now, with help from her Sponsor and friend, Maggie, Cesca is living a normal life, or rather UN-normal for a vampire, by taking online courses in Architecture, working as a Ghost Tour Guide and shopping at Wal-Mart. But, when she is hassled by a vampire killer and propositioned while giving a tour, Cesca holds her own. It’s only when her propositioner is murdered that Cesca loses her cool. She knows that she is the prime suspect and this mystery-reading vampire knows that she will have to find the killer to clear her name. Add in a former Supernatural Hunter/Killer turned Cop who has awoken her hormones and this Vampire Gidget will have to use all her senses to keep her heart, and her afterlife, safe.
As a first book by Nancy Haddock La Vida Vampire is delight. The author brought the character to “life” and made her real and likable. Not so easy for one of the un-alive. *g* I hope to read many more book by this debut author. Bravo!
